MIFGS 2009 - Habitat

Shows & Exhibitions

In 2009, we were invited to create the most ambitious installation ever seen in the 14-year history of the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show (MIFGS).  HABITAT was the result, a landmark design in sustainability comprising over 600 square metres of native Australian wonderland.  HABITAT was awarded Gold for Best Show Garden, and went on to be named overall Best in Show for MIFGS 2009.

HABITAT was a timely demonstration of landscape design for the 21st century – accounting for ever increasing water restrictions and climate change. Centred on the tranquility and life prescribed by running water, HABITAT was an ode to water conservation, capture, storage and efficient use.  The landscape aimed to challenge our imported vernacular in “beautiful” garden design. It was a showcase of a design that promoted self-sufficiency and true sustainability - using native and indigenous plants, solar power, local and recycled materials, and water conservation.
